As technology reshapes our lives, school buildings, too, are undergoing a dramatic shift in terms of their curriculum, modus operandi and building typologies. New tools and technologies, such as artificial intelligence, cloud-based systems, remote education, in addition to an ever increasingly networked society affects the way students learn and teachers teach. In this paper, we explore a new school typology that converges digital and physical spaces, and offers novel teaching and learning environments for the future generation of students and teachers. We survey new design approaches in education, compare existing transformations of other relevant building typologies, and illustrate the application of our findings on a real-world case study. First, we map out the program of physical and/or digital spaces of future school buildings, second, we develop new design approaches to converge the two, and finally, illustrate a replicable framework for a new school typology in Türkiye.
